Product Review: NYX Lipstick Haul

I’ve been meaning to do a lip swatch video of the NYX products I bought a few months ago, but as the days went by, I couldn’t fade recording or editing a video. Blame it on the cold weather. So, I decided to share my thoughts the old fashioned way, in writing.

I don’t even remember when I bought these products, but I’ve had enough time to decide if I like them or not. I like them. I particularly like the Soft Matte Lip Creme in Abu Dhabi, which is not pictured because I purchased it in the spring. I don’t know what my lip life was like before wearing Abu Dhabi. It’s perfect. I wear it all the time when I can’t make up my mind about another lip color to wear. It’s my safety blanket.

I’ll discuss Abu Dhabi in another post, though. Today, it’s all about these five colors:

nyx-haul-2

In general, these products are highly pigmented, don’t stay on all day and immediately begin fading after eating lol. They’re comfortable on the lips and not overly drying.

Lip Lingerie in Beauty Mark – I would describe this product as a muted brown with purple undertones. I enjoy when this color starts to fade because it looks like a natural stain. At the end of the day, the color looks like my lips, and I don’t mind that. The only annoying thing is that texture wise, it feels a bit sticky.

Lip Lingerie in Teddy – I would describe this product as a grayish, muted brown. The same sentiments about Beauty Mark apply to Teddy. When it starts to fade, it looks great. I usually don’t ever reapply this color because it looks better with time. Again, the texture is a bit sticky, but it kind of subsides as the day progresses.

Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Club Hopper – I would describe this color as a purplish brown. Again, the color looks like a natural lip stain as the day progresses. I like that. When first applying, the hue is very rich. It’s comfortable on the lips from what I can remember when I last wore it. It’s a cream, so it won’t give you a matte finish, but instead a subtle sheen.

Soft Matte Lip Creme in Transylvania – I would describe this color as violet. It’s creamy when you first apply it and then dries down matte. It doesn’t last very long at all, and because I have a pink bottom lip, I have to apply this like a million times just to cover it. A lot of color doesn’t come out on the doe foot applicator, which I absolutely hate about the Soft Matte Lip Creme line. Otherwise, it’s comfortable to wear.

Soft Matte Lip Creme in Copenhagen – I would describe this as a berry red. The same sentiments about Transylvania apply to Copenhagen. When these colors start to fade, though, they look a hot ass mess lol. I find myself either wiping off or adding more product. Usually it’s the former. I do enjoy using these colors as a top layer to other lipstick brands. They usually makes those other brands’ colors last longer. Go figure!

That’s about all I have to say about these products. As always, thanks for reading my post. What are some of your favorite drugstore lip brands, if any?

Video & Product Review: Swatched Milani Amore Matte Lip Cremes

I don’t typically buy drugstore lipsticks, but one day I saw swatches on Instagram of Milani’s fall collection. I fell in love with the dark colors, and I had to have them. They were hella hard to find because they’re only sold at select Duane Reade and Walgreens stores, in my town. I literally went to three Duane Reade stores, one Walgreens store and tried my luck at Rite Aid lol. The only store that had the very small display of lip colors was Walgreens. The only problem was two of the colors I wanted were sold out, so I was only able to get Dearest, Emotion and Glamour.

As I was creating the video for this product review (Sunday), I went to the Milani website to see how the company described the colors and guest what? Won’t He do it! The entire fall collection is now available online! Boop! Be advised that it’s being marketed as ‘limited edition,’ so the colors may not be around for long. I had no clue Milani was going to offer the collection on its site. I figured it was limited edition for in-store only, so I counted my blessings with the three I bought. But God had a plan! #Blessed. I purchased three other colors from the fall collection online (Beautiful, Attraction and Magnetic) and two from the “main?” collection (Devotion and Sugar). I’ll probably update this post with my thoughts on the other colors or maybe just post pics on Instagram. Now for the review:

Dearest is described as a “deep merlot.” I live for this hue and its color payoff is great. My issue with this particular shade/formula is that it crumbles and starts to flake once it’s been on for about 15-20 minutes. Thank the Lord I noticed it was crusting before I left the house to go out. Basically, it’s not long-lasting or transfer-proof, especially since it started to fall off my lips after a few minutes. This particular shade is also extremely drying compared to the other two shades. The color is beautiful, but it’s not even worth the $8 because you’ll only wear it for two seconds.

Emotion is described as a “reddish brown.” It’s comfortable on the lips and not overly drying. The color payoff is great, and it seemed to last for a few hours. It wasn’t completely transfer-proof, though. I’m not the biggest fan of the actual color, but I like the formula.

Glamour is described as a “pearl bronze.” The formula is pretty much like Emotion. It’s also comfortable on the lips and not overly drying. There’s a luminous sheen to Glamour. It’s not exactly metallic, just more pearly. It reminds me of ColourPop’s Zebra, although – Glamour is much darker and not as shiny. The color payoff is also good, and it lasted for a few hours. Like Emotion, it’s also not transfer-proof.  I would wear this instead of the ColourPop color because it’s not sticky and dries down much faster.

Milani claims its matte lip cremes last “up to 16 hours.” Lies. I’m hoping the other colors/formulas are similar to Emotion and Glamour as far as comfort and texture. I’m already certain they won’t be long-lasting and transfer-proof, but who knows? The Dearest formula is completely different from Emotion and Glamour, so I’ll see.
